The Corporation Documentary Opinion Piece

21st February, 2010 - Posted by Jasmin Dalton - No Comments

This documentary does not portray a balanced view of corporations, as they do not debate nor do they counter the points that they make throughout the film. However, I do not feel that this is negative. Corporations pump millions, if not billions, of dollars into promoting a skewed, bias, positive self-image. I think that it is important for film makers to use their democratic rights to counter this gargantuan lie in whatever way they can. A Wal-Mart commercial does not point out any of its faults, so why should a documentary analyzing the negative side of corporations point out any of the pros? Read More

Marxism vs. Capitalism in The Godfather

9th June, 2009 - Posted by Jasmin Dalton - 2 Comments

The Corleone family become capitalist, bourgeoisie members of society by manipulating and influencing the elite society members who dictate to the working class. The Corleones oppress the members of society who are in a class beneath them, and tear down and destroy those who threaten them as competitors. The rise and fall of Don Vito Corleone, the murder of Sonny Corleone, and Michael Corleone’s loss of integrity exhibit why Marxists do not believe capitalist societies can last as such. As society’s ideals are driven towards towards economical and materialistic advancement, destruction, corruption and inhumanity increase significantly, leaving the soul of civilization void of integrity. Capitalist driven societies will bring an elite group of people power, and then fall as Marxists predict and as was true for Vito and Sonny Corleone. Read More
